One of my very few exceptions is the A Song of Ice and Fire series, by George R. R. Martin. I read the first book, A Game of Thrones, after devouring Season 1 of the eponymous HBO show, but never bothered reading books two through five. I continued to watch the show and the guilt for breaking my bookish rule continued to grow. Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Game of Thrones is a TV series based on the book “A Song of Ice of Fire” by George R. R. Martin. It tells the story of the ongoing battle between the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros - as they fight for control of the coveted Iron Throne. Friction between the houses leads to full-scale war. Books first, then watch the show if you want (maybe watch it alongside doing a re-read). They really are great accompaniments for each other, the books can expand on a lot of things more than the show can, but the show can get some things across better than the books. They actually make each other better. 11.

Technically, the HBO series has moved past George R. R. Martin's book series. The most recently published book, A Dance With Dragons, ends with Jon Snow's (temporary) death, which for TV audiences
